Oliver in Columbus, OH

Just Adopted!

Here is Oliver with his new family...

My Journey Begins

My Cavalier Mom told me this tale of how I came to be. She said it all began with a warm summer breeze and the beckoning glow of a new moon. A perfect evening to take a stroll. On her way, a shadow appeared and then followed. The shadow was not scary; this shadow was kind and gentle. The shadow had long legs, a fluffy tail, and a prideful yet humbling stance. Mom sighed as she spoke of his beautiful Ruby red coat and his white blaze straight down to his coal black nose. His tail even waved like her own. When her eyes met his, love blossomed and I was born. Over time, Dad grew restless, kissed us goodbye, and returned to the forest while her tears fell like rain. It was only then that my Cavalier Mom realized the love of her life was a White Tailed Deer! Now I’m a little worried. Maybe I’m not a Cavalier; maybe I’m a CavaDeer? What do you see when you see me?

Things Oliver Wants Us to Know

Oliver is one of the most lovable, gentle little Cavalier boys ever! Foster-care has helped Oliver learn about kind humans, is helping him build his skills, his confidence, and his manners though he is naturally very polite. All the humans “Ooh” and “Ahh” whenever they meet Oliver. His foster Mom says he is the sweetest boy, best cuddler, best snuggler, most attentive, and most gentle puppy dog ever. He is intelligent, a great learner, naturally social, polite, and nothing less than a true Prince. Those who have met Oliver think he is really special, not just because he may be a CavaDeer but also because he is brave, loyal, healthy, and has not had one potty accident in his foster home. Oliver also plays and naps perfectly with his foster siblings.

Oliver’s leash skills are still developing. A secure, fenced yard is important as he likes to explore. Also, he has not been introduced to family pets, just his foster Cavalier siblings. Probably Oliver’s greatest challenge is Separation Anxiety. He does not understand being left alone, he is terrified. Foster Mom always makes sure Oliver is kenneled with another Cavalier before she leaves. She works from home and doesn’t leave often or for very long, but every family needs to go to the grocery once in a while, right? Maybe Oliver’s forever human will make sure he has a calm, friendly dog in the family who will be his new buddy.

One more very important thing is that Oliver is quite tender hearted. Loud voices, sudden noises, sharp “NO” commands are so scary that he will be startled and will cower and want to hide. Gentle tones and soft touches mean he is still safe and loved and this is imperative for Oliver’s future. His foster Mom promises this little guy is worth every effort to earn his trust. He will love his human tenfold.

An Adoption Message from Oliver

My foster Mom cuddled me on her lap and told me how much she loved me, how wonderfully I have blossomed, and that now I am ready to learn all about “adoption” like moving to a new home, saying goodbye to foster family, riding in a new car, peeing on new grass, eating from a new bowl, and snuggling in the big bed with my very own human . . . forever. If my new human is reading this, I love you. I hope you really love me. Yours forever, Oliver!

Oliver is dreaming of that special someone who will share his amazing journey of life, love, laughter, companionship, good times, good memories, and everything else that we Cavalier devotees treasure about our precious breed.
