Like some of the dogs that come into rescue, Izzy has been through some tough times. But this resilient girl has a story that not many live to tell. Izzy lost her owner, her home, her left eye, and a little bit of her spirit in the devastating tornados of April 27, 2011 that ripped through her town in Alabama. For months after, she survived on little to no shelter, food, or care, and acquired heartworms. Thanks to wonderful donors, Izzy was able to receive the treatment needed and is now feeling great and healthy and looking for the perfect home and family with whom she can spend the rest of her life.

Because of the circumstances she endured, Izzy needs an extra special family who can give her some special attention. She is cautious and timid and takes some time to feel safe and trusting. She is easily startled and has a difficult time relaxing, which is why she needs a very calm, quiet living environment. She will need a family who will be very patient with her and will allow her to progress on her own time. I can promise you though, that once she trusts you and feels safe, she will provide an equally special kind of love. It is a very rewarding experience to gain her trust and to receive her love.

In foster care, she is walked on a leash outside. A fenced in yard is not required, as she prefers to stick right by your side, which makes for an excellent leash walker! She uses the bathroom and heads back in side and right to a comfy spot on the couch. Her activity level is low and she does not need a lot of stimulation (toys, squeaky things, etc.) but is known to enjoy chewing on a bone every now and then. What she enjoys most is just having you sit next to her with a gentle hand on her.
When left at home alone, Izzy does not enjoy being in a smaller crate and does much better in a more open pen situation or gated into a room. Her favorite part of the day is snuggling in bed so she would definitely appreciate a family who will welcome there.
Izzy is such a deserving little girl and will truly be such a special addition to the right family.
